In celebration of the World Wetlands Day (WWD), Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) is organizing a Nature Journalism Competition among students from various primary and secondary schools in Lagos State. World Wetlands Day is an annual theme based event, celebrated every 2nd of February, to raise global awareness about the value of wetlands for humanity and the planet. This year’s theme is “Wetlands for a Sustainable Urban Future”. The competition is open to participants between the ages 8-11 years and 12-15 years category only. Students are expected to identify and visit wetlands close to them to create awareness about the importance of wetlands and write on how our Wetlands can be sustained considering the rate of urbanization. Each write-up must be between 500-700 words for ages 8-11 years and 700-1000 words for ages 12-15. Mode of Submission Each write up should be informative, educative and innovative. Deadline for submission is February 22nd, 2018. Winners will be awarded accordingly.
The Chief S.L Edu Memorial Lecture is organized annually by NCF in collaboration with the S.L Edu Family and with the support of Chevron Nigeria Limited in honour of Late Chief S.L Edu who was one of the Founders and the first President of the Foundation. The lecture series is aimed at articulating, and proffering solutions to environmental issues. The 16th lecture series comes up on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) Auditorium, 13/15, Kofo Abayomi Street, Victoria Island Lagos, at 11:00 a.m. The Guest Speaker is Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, Professor of Environmental Law and Policy and Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo. He will speak on “Combatting Illegal Wildlife Trade in West Africa: The role of Environmental Law and Governance”. Broad and diverse audience consisting of policy makers, researchers and students, local and international press and other environmental stakeholders usually attend the Lecture.
