Introduction

Lekki Bird Club at the National Theatre,Lagos. The Lekki Bird Club (LBC) is a voluntary Lagos-city based conservation group that brings together nature enthusiasts from different spheres of human endeavour under the umbrella of increasing the awareness of bird conservation. As a local bird group, LBC aims to educate on the importance of birds to the conservation of nature while ensuring the systematic collation of bird information through periodic birding trips and other activities that promote bird conservation.

All over the world, the fate of birds is dependent on the habitats in which they live. Apparently, they are quite inseparable from our daily life as they provide numerous immeasurable services for man and the natural environment. Therefore, promoting public awareness and determining their status is requisite to properly channel actions for their conservation. Bearing in mind that effort made to protect birds and their habitat is tantamount to ecosystem and environmental conservation.

Although Lagos based, the long-term plan is to replicate the same idea in other locations within Nigeria so as to generate robust data on the status and population trends of Nigerian avifauna species, especially those with fragile populations. However, LBC is not just for birds but also for people. To this end, voluntary nature enthusiasts engage in a monthly birdwalk (usually every third Saturday of the month) to key birding sites in the state and engage in other activities that promote bird conservation to achieve the objectives of the club. Furthermore, LBC encourages individual bird observations and data generation on the part of its members.

The Lekki Bird Club has two membership categories; individual and student. Prospective individual members will pay a fee of N2,000 while students will pay a token of N1,000. Membership forms can be downloaded here or requested by mail from This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
