The 2007 -2011 strategy of the NCF highlighted the priority biomes and species for attention of the NCF.
A focus on some species became paramount given their local and global significance and their status as being endangered or highly threatened. The focal species includes Birds: Ibadan Malimbe & Grey-necked Picathartes; Freshwater & Marine Habitats: the sea turtles, the West African manatee; the ape species in Nigeria (the Nigerian-Cameroon chimpanzee and the Cross River Gorilla), the forest and savanna elephant, the orchids and all varieties of endangered plant life in Nigeria.
