World Environment Day (WED) is a global event celebrated annually on the 5th day of June in more than 100 countries bringing together over 6 million people to create awareness about the state of the environment and deliberate on what local actions are necessary to ensure global environmental sustainability.
The theme for this year “Connecting people to Nature” will focus on everyone getting outdoor experience with nature to appreciate its beauty and importance in addition to the role we can play to jointly respond to the call to protect the earth and our national heritage. This year’s theme invites us to think about how we are part of nature and how intimately we depend on it. It challenges us to find fun and exciting ways to experience and cherish this vital relationship.
The World Environment Day (WED), will be celebrated at the Lekki Conservation Centre (LCC), Lekki, Lagos State. This years’ WED will be celebrated in form of outdoor activities and a ‘Pass-it-On’ Awareness Campaign which involves students creating awareness within their host communities on the theme of the year. The project will host 500 students from both public and private schools in Lagos. The selected students will be representing the sponsoring organization as they will be adorned with the organization’s branded T-Shirts and equally be involved in the under listed activities based on the organization’s preference:
